Aiming to provide a comprehensive service to its clients, since its foundation in 1967 SIAT has established, in addition to the other basic departments dealing with marine insurance, also a P&I Department. Over the years this proved to be a far-sighted choice. National laws and international conventions have steadily increased civil liabilities incidental to shipowning, and P&I coverage has become an essential complement of modern shipping. Many of the leading shipowners who were sharing most of SIAT's original capital were entered with the P&I Club, The Steamship Mutual Underwriting Association (Bermuda) Limited. (SSMUA). These historical links, coupled with an excellent relationship with the Club's Managers, led to a close and successful co-operation between SIAT and this mutual insurer, which is one of the top Clubs within the International Group. Whilst playing a fundamental role in supporting the SSMUA Club in reaching a high profile in the Italian market, through its P&I Department SIAT has built up, over the years, a valuable expertise in this highly specialized field and can provide wide-range advisory assistance on all aspects of this cover. |
